Procedure for operating the module:

  • The procedure for operating the module is shown on the next page. After reading all the instructions, you may go to the next page for operation.
  • Set the stagnation pressure (Po) and ambient pressure (Pb) such that Pb/Po ratio < 1. One set of recommended values for quick visualization of the normal shock are Po= 166.6 Kpa and Pb = 104.8 Kpa.
  • Press the start button to start the simulation.
  • Click on "magnify" button to see if the shock exists in the nozzle for the chosen pressure values
  • You can view the properties by clicking the mouse any where in the Nozzle .
  • You can view properties by color by clicking on "view properties" button.
  • The working medium is air by default. For this case the molecular weight (M) and the ratio of specific heats (K) are 28.97 and 1.4 respectively.
  • Click the "Run" button to execute the default case.
  • For flow medium other than air, you would be required to generate mixture properties resulting from combustion of hydrocarbon fuel and oxidizer (air). For this student generated activity you should click on "Procedure to find K, M and To "on the next page for more information and numerical procedure.
